Morning Workshop Session: 9:30am – 11:00am
Tour of Irving S. Gilmore Theatre Complex with Patrick Niemi, Technical Director An extensive tour of the Gilmore Theatre Complex that contains the Laura V. Shaw Proscenium Theatre, D. Terry Williams Black Box Theatre, and Zack L. York Arena Theatre. The tour will also include design studios, costume shop, scene shop, arts management suite, and acting studios as well as other support spaces.
Early Afternoon Workshops: 11:00am-1:00pm
A) Real Time 3D for Live Performance Presented by: Kevin Abbott, Project Lead, 3D and Interactive media for the Office of Information Technology Exploring the ways you can use digital media in productions with photos from past productions and an opportunity to discuss your past digital media experiences
B) Production Management Roundtable Presented by: Cheryl Bruey, Production Stage Manager Spend a relaxed and informal session with several production managers and stage managers from the Midwest Section to discuss your management challenges and a variety of best practices for effective management.
Late Afternoon Workshops: 2:30pm-5:00pm
C) Digital Media Content Creation for Live Performance Presented by: Kevin Abbott, Project Lead, 3D and Interactive media for the Office of Information Technology A follow-up to the morning’s digital media workshop that allows participants to create content for the stage in the digital media studio. Participants will shoot footage including live-action video and green screen sessions and then develop them for use on stage.
D) Bridle and Spot Rigging. Presented by: Shane Kelly, ETCP Certified Rigger-Arena and Theatre and Patrick Niemi, Western Michigan University Technical Director. Spend the afternoon in the Williams Theatre calculating and executing a variety of bridle and spot rigging. Answer questions like, “how can I be sure this bridle is safe?” “how can I fit this chandelier in this space, and keep it from spinning?” and “which one of these calculations do I really need?”
